Civic Cu/tuial Commission Page 3 <br /> Minutes of December 7, 2000 <br /> -Children and Schools <br /> Commissioner Soultanian reported that she and Commissioner Dale have <br /> spoken and developed a list of proposed themes for the annual Art Contest <br /> which include: <br /> -Under the Sea <br /> -Create an invention and what would it do? <br /> -What do you want to be when you grow up? <br /> -An adventure in Redwood City <br /> The Commissioners discussed the timing of the art contest, turnout, <br /> coordinating our contest with the Port of Redwood City's, working with the <br /> schools, and inclusion of poetry. This matter will be discussed at the ]anuary <br /> meeting. <br /> -CCC Sponsored Events, Summer Concert Series <br /> Commissioner Ball reported on the successful �Tis the Season event on <br /> Saturday, December 2 held in downtown Redwood City. The fireworks were <br /> well received and the representative from Washington Mutual advised <br /> Commissioner Ball that they would fund the program again next year. She <br /> estimated 5,000 people were in attendance to watch the parade, participate <br /> in the sing-a-long, tree lighting and fireworks. Commissioner Ball requested <br /> that this program continue to be a Civic Cultural Commission sponsored <br /> event. Commissioner Soultanian suggested having the art contest correlate <br /> to the 'Tis the Season event to get more participation from the schools. <br /> -Strategic Plan Update <br /> This committee will resume in January. <br /> -Public Art <br /> Chairperson Britschgi requested that copies of the public art report be sent to <br /> the four new Commissioners in their January packet so they could become <br /> familiar with the proposal. <br /> ITEM 5 — EVALUATION OF CULTURAL EVENTS HELD OVER THE PAST <br /> 30 DAYS <br /> Kushin-not able to attend cultural events due to family illness, but reported <br /> that he was impressed with the quality of service at Sequoia Hospital <br /> Soultanian-Redwood City Art Center Open House on December 2 <br /> Ball`Tis the Season event; she also suggesting working with ]oe Marchi to <br /> have a future event and will call him to see if he could come to the January <br /> meeting <br /> Britschgi"Night in Tuscany" event on December 1 sponsored by the Redwood <br /> City Library Foundation <br /> Items for 7anuary Agenda: <br /> Joe Marchi presentation <br />
