Civic Cu/tuia/Commission Page 2 Minutes of March 2, 2000 -Redwood City International Andy Frisch spoke about Redwood City International's request for funding for a mariachi band and Ballet Folklorico to perform at their second annual Cinco de Mayo Celebration on May 4. Redwood City Inte�national is co-sponsoring the event with the San Mateo County Art Museum and Young Latino Leade�s. Chairperson Redington mentioned that Commissioner Dale had expressed his support of this event. Commissioner Saye asked if his membership on the Carrington Hall Restoration Committee was in conflict with the grant to PCS and Superintendent Centeno replied there was no conflict. M/S Saye/Del Carlo: To grant $8,385.00 to Peninsula Center Stage. Motion passed unanimously. M/S Saye/Del Carlo: To grant 5999.00 to John Gill School. Motion passed unanimously. M/S Britschgi/Saye: To grant 5450.00 to Redwood City International. Motion passed unanimously. CORRESPONDENCE Superintendent Centeno reviewed the following correspondence received: -A thank you letter from John Gill School for thei� grant to fund the p�oduction of "Pushes and Pulls". -A letter from the Silicon Valley Art Museum stating they will be presenting to the City Council and asking them to recommend use of the Fiscal Building to the County Board of Supervisors. The letter also asked fo� the Commission's support and attendance at the Council meeting. -EI Camino Youth Symphony annual benefit concerts on March 4, 5, and 9. -Redwood City Education Foundation invitation to "Juke Box F�iday Night" on March 24 at Foreste�s Hall. -A flyer from Peninsula Civic Light Opera. -Newsletters from Sequoia Art Group, San Mateo County A�ts Council, Veterans Memorial Senior Center ITEM 2 - SUB-COMMITTEE REPORTS -Budget Commissione� Del Carlo spoke about the recommendations of the sub- committee and �eviewed them with the Commissione�s. Recommendations included: annual budget for fiscal year 00-01 would remain at 576,150; fo� fiscal year 01-02 would increase to 577,500; transfer 57,500 from the Commission-sponsored events category in FY99-00 and place it into a sepa�ate account to establish a public art fund used to p�omote art in city buildings and other public spaces. Superintendent Centeno pointed out that the Port donation for the concert series was placed into the John Raitt Fund in order to set aside the funds for payment to music groups this summer.
