Civic Culturai Commission Page 3 <br /> Minutes of Thursday, April 6, 2000 <br /> such as the City Council Chambers, Veterans Memorial Senior Center, <br /> and Community Activities Building, the clocktower on EI Camino Real <br /> at Broadway, McKinley Middle School campus, and the future <br /> downtown theater complex. <br /> M/S Britschgi/DelCarlo: To support the concept of digital <br /> public art and to request that Professor Niemeyer and his <br /> students come to the May meeting and that they obtain input <br /> from City staff on possible art sites. <br /> Professor Niemeyer agreed to possible tour sites and to follow up with <br /> Superintendent Centeno. <br /> Motion passed unanimously. <br /> ITEM 2 — PUBLIC ART FEE FOR DEVELOPMENT <br /> Planning Commissioner Tamara Piulle handed out several items for the <br /> Commissioners' review: an article on the City of Brea's public art <br /> program, a memo to the City Council dated 7-9-91 which the spoke <br /> about the Cultural Commission's recommendation to have a �/z of 1% <br /> of developer fees fund art in public places, and a staff report from the <br /> City of Menlo Park approving an art in public places program. <br /> Commissioner Piulle stated the Planning Commission is interested in <br /> supporting a "percent for public art program" and asked if the <br /> Commission was interested in the concept. Commissioner Britschgi <br /> explained that the Commission has been working on this matter for <br /> several months and is interested in the support of the Planning <br /> Commission. Commissioner Piulle invited a representative from the <br /> Cultural Commission to attend the Planning Commission meeting on <br /> Tuesday, April 18 at 7:30pm in Council Chambers to speak on this <br /> concept. Chairperson Redington suggested that the sub-committee <br /> meet to discuss this matter and select someone to represent the <br /> Commission at the meeting on April 18. <br /> There was discussion about the public art at City facilities and how the <br /> art was funded, and the various types of public art available. <br /> ITEM 3 — GRANT REQUESTS <br /> -Youth Advisory Board, Jeri )oseph <br /> This item was deferred until next meeting. <br />
