Civic Cu/tural Cammission pa9e 2 ^
Minutes of Ju/y 6, 2000
cities. She took pictures of Stafford Park showing signs of wear on the turf
areas and said that she has pictures of glass bottles in the children's play
area the morning after a concert. She said that Stafford Park neighbors were
never consulted about having the concert in the park series at the park. Mrs.
Travers suggested that the Commission move the concerts to Red Morton
Park or to Sequoia High School. Commissioner Schenone asked how this
year's concert activity was different from previous years since the concerts
have been there for several years. Mrs. Travers said the concert activity in
combination with the constant high use of the park was the "straw that broke
the camel's back". She also handled out draft notes prepared by the
Peninsula Conflict Resolution Center (PCRC) who mediated the June 21
meeting. Mrs. Travers noted that she and neighbor AI Diaz spoke before the
City Counci! on June 26 regarding this issue. Commissioner Say2 stated that
the Commission has never received a complaint from a park neighbor about
the concerts in the past. Commissioner Schenone stated that this year's
concerts have been advertised for Stafford Park but that the Commission
could discuss the possibility of re-locating next year's concerts at our next
meeting. Chairperson Redington noted that this item was not on this
evening's agenda and no decision could be made on this item, so it will be
placed on the August meeting agenda.
ITEfN 1 — GRANT REQUESTS
-Taft Healthy Start Family Center
Chairperson Redington noted that a representative from Taf made a
presentation for their grant request of $900.00 at the June meeting.
M/S Schenone/Saye: To grant $900.00 to the Taft Healthy Start
Family Center.
Pqotion passed unanimously.
-Sequoia Art Group
Eddie Rosenstiel of the Sequoia Art Group spoke regarding their grant
request for $800.00. Next years Art Show will be expanded to
include a new division for middle school entries.
