Civic Cu/tura/Commission Page 3 <br /> Minutes of July 6, 2000 <br /> -itedwood City Kiwanis Farmers Market <br /> Dr. Ken Graham, incoming president of the Redwood City Kiwanis Club, <br /> spoke regarding their request for $900.00 to fund musical groups to play at <br /> the weekly Farmers Market held in downtown Redwood City. Dr. Graham <br /> explained that the market runs from May to November and felt the addition <br /> of the performing musical groups transforms the market into a cultural event. <br /> He noted that all profits earned at the Farmers Market goes into a ��shopping <br /> spree" program to benefit underprivileged Redwood City school children. It <br /> was suggested that the Kiwanis Club issue a press release to advertise the <br /> musical groups; to produce a schedule of performers to hand out at the <br /> market; and a poster with the dates and names of the perFormers to display <br /> at the market. <br /> M/S Saye/Schenone: To grant $900.00 to the Redwood City Ki�anis <br /> Club. <br /> Motion passed unanimously. <br /> -Redwood City Heritage Association <br /> Shiriey Masters gave the history of the Heritage Association and its <br /> responsibility to manage Lathrop House. She stated that Lathrop House is <br /> operated by volunteers and they have several fundraising events during the <br /> year to help with expenses. The Heritage Association's grant request of <br /> $999.00 is to provide entertainment for various fundraising events, including <br /> their Octoberfest and Holiday Open House in December. <br /> M/S Del Carlo/Schenone: To grant $999.00 to the Heritage <br /> Assaciation. <br /> iNotion passed unanimously. <br /> The meeting was recessed at 8:lOpm and reconvened at 8:40pm. <br /> ITEM 2 — SUB-COMMITTEE REPORTS <br /> -Budget, Art Fund Establishment, Council eeting Date fi/26/00 <br /> Superintendent Centeno explained that at the June meeting, tlie Commission <br /> voted to change the amount of the Art Fund establishment from $4,000 to <br /> $5,000. She advised the Commission she would try to get the amount <br /> changed, but a report had already been prepared for Council and she was not <br /> sure we would be able to get the change implemented. Unfortunately, the <br /> report had already been sent to Council and the transfer of $4�000 was <br /> approved by Council on June 26. This Public Art Fund will be part of the <br /> Capital Improvement budget because it will be used over a several year <br /> period. <br /> Superintendent Centeno reviewed the FY99-00 budget spreadsheet with the <br /> Commissioners and noted that performance dates, attendance and final <br />
