Currentiy, only 15 students are enrolled in the band <br /> and these numbers may decrease. Dr. Pacheco said he is very dismayed <br /> about the condition of the music program and wili be working very hard to <br /> improve the program. He is organizing an annual music event to be held <br /> Spring 2002 and is hoping to invite Sequoia music alumni to participate in <br /> this event. Mr. Filippi and Dr. Pacheco are looking to form a coalition to <br /> rehabilitate Sequoia's music program. Dr. Pacheco will advise the <br /> Commission of the meeting date and location of this group. <br /> ITEM 1 - SMALL GRANT REQUESTS <br /> Kay O'Neill of Adelante School spoke about their grant request of $1,OOO.UO <br /> which will help fund the mosaic tiling of several new garden beds at the <br /> school. Ms. O'Neill explained the first phase of the project was the <br /> construction of eight garden benches at Adelante. The garden beds will be <br /> used as part of the students' curriculum in art, science, math and other <br /> subjects. The next phase of the project is to tile three of the garden beds <br /> with mosaic tile. Ms. O'Neill stated she has obtained donation of tile for the <br /> project and the grant will help pay for supplies. She also noted that <br /> Commissioner Denise Soultanian has volunteered to assist with the <br /> installation of the mosaic tile and art curriculum. <br /> M/S Ball/Douglas: To grant $1,000.00 to Adelante School for their <br /> mosaic tile project. <br /> Motion passed. (3-Yes, 1-Abstain Soultanian) <br /> ITEM 2 - SUB-COMMITTEE REPORTS <br /> -Budget <br /> No report. <br /> -Children and Schools <br /> No report. <br /> -Cultural Commission Sponsored Events, `Tis the Season <br /> Commissioners Ball and Douglas reported on the successful �Tis the Season <br /> event on December 1. <br /> -Strategic Plan Update <br /> Downtown Planning Committee - No Report <br /> San Mateo County Arts Council - Commissioner pouglas reported that he <br /> is maintaining contact with the group and felt the Commission should <br /> concentrate its efforts in Redwood City and be as supportive as possible to <br /> the Arts Council. <br />
