Civic Cult+ura/Commission Page 2 <br /> Minutes of June 7, 2001 <br /> ITEM 2 — LARGE GRANT REQUESTS FOR FISCAL YEAR 2001-2002 <br /> Chairperson Britschgi explained the presentation process to the applicants <br /> and announced that fourteen large grant requests were received totaling <br /> $135,150.00 and the Commission only has $58,125.00 available in large <br /> grant funding. <br /> -City Center Plaza <br /> Erin Raiser spoke about the 2"d formal year of the jazz concert program at <br /> City Center Plaza. Ms. Raiser stated they would consider a minimum of <br /> $5,000.00 in funding. <br /> -�ohn Gill School <br /> Lua Hadar and Todd Gaviglio spoke about the importance of arts in the <br /> schools, budget constraints, current and previous performing arts programs <br /> at John Gill School, and John Gill's magnet focus of visual and performing <br /> arts. <br /> -Kennedy Middle School <br /> Elena Mori spoke about Kennedy being a math and technology magnet and <br /> that there is no funding for performing arts. She spoke about Kennedy's <br /> performance of"Annie Get Your Gun" which the Commission had funded. <br /> She explained that this year's funding request will pay for the royalties for <br /> their next musical production. <br /> -Kiwanis Farmers Market <br /> Carrick Sears and Caroline McHenry of the Kiwanis Club spoke about the <br /> history of the Farmers Market. Mr. Sears explained that the funding request <br /> will provide live music at the market each Saturday for the entire season. <br /> They spoke about the operation of the Farmers Market and the benefits to <br /> having live music each week. <br /> -Kollage School for the Arts <br /> Jenna Fisher spoke about Kollage's grant request which is split into two <br /> sections; $2,500.00 of the funding will be to sponsor an ethnic dance <br /> program and $9,500.00 is to provide organization support for the Kollage <br /> programs. Ms. Fisher spoke about the collaboration with the Redwood City <br /> Education Foundation and the Redwood City School District to provide the <br /> "Music for Learning" program to Redwood City students. <br /> -Montalvo <br /> Romola Breckenridge spoke on behalf of the grant request from Montalvo and <br /> provided history about the organization and what programs they provide to <br /> the community. She stated their grant request is to provide funding for five <br /> performances, including two live theater productions, at the Fox Theater this <br /> year. Ms. Breckenridge confirmed that Montalvo is a non-profit organization. <br /> Commissioner Dale asked if Montalvo would allow Redwood City students to <br />
