Civic Cultural Commission paye 2 � <br /> Minutes of September 6, 2001 ` <br /> ITEM 1 — SMALL GRANT REQUESTS <br /> -Sequoia Art Group - $1,000 <br /> Eddie Rosensteil and Bob Parkhurst of the Sequoia Art Group spoke on behalf <br /> of their grant request. Mr. Rosensteil noted that there was a 20% increase in <br /> attendance at the 2001 show and that entries were received from five <br /> additional middle and high schools. He stated that last year's grant of <br /> $800.00 provided prizes at the art show and he felt that providing a higher <br /> level or prizes brought in better participation by local artists. Mr. Parkhurst <br /> reviewed the Art Group's accomplishments and announced that an art exhibit <br /> and reception at City Hall is being planned for October 26. <br /> -Casa de Redwood - $500 <br /> Millie Cole spoke on behalf of Pete Hughes and the Casa de Redwood Board <br /> of Directors regarding their grant request of $500.00 which will fund a live <br /> band to play at two winter concerts at Casa de Redwood. She spoke about <br /> the programs offered at Casa de Redwood which is a low income senior <br /> facility. <br /> -Canada College Arts and Olive Festival <br /> )ulie Mooney and Linda Hayes spoke on behalf of Canada College's grant <br /> request which would fund live entertainment for the Arts and Olive Festival to <br /> be held on October 6 and 7. Ms. Mooney spoke about the history of the <br /> festival which is operated by more than 70 volunteers and brings in people <br /> from all over the County. Ms. Hayes stated that in previous years, the <br /> entertainment groups donated their time to perform at the two day event, <br /> but the organizers felt they would like to pay them a small stipend. <br /> -Peninsula Ballet Theatre School - $1,000 <br /> No representative was present from this organization. Commissioner Ball will <br /> contact Rosine Bena to see if she wants to participate in the �Tis the Season <br /> Program and to determine if this grant request should be re-scheduled for <br /> the October meeting. <br /> -Art in Action <br /> No representative was present from this organization. The Commissioners <br /> discussed this grant request and the four schools participating in the <br /> program. <br /> M/S Del Carlo/Douglas: To grant $1,000.00 to Sequoia Art Group. <br /> Motion passed unanimously. <br /> M/S Douglas/Ball: To grant $500.00 to Art in Action with a matching <br /> grant to be raised by the participating schools. <br /> Motion passed unanimously. <br />
