336 <br />Councilman Britschgi, Affidavit of Publication of South Kensington Square Annexa- <br />tion Ordinance was ordered filed, and motion carried. Councilman Britschgi, sec- <br />onded by Councilman Swift, moved Adoption of Ordinance Annexation of South <br />Kensington Square. Motion carried on roll call. Councilman Granger noted absent. <br />ABATEMENT PROCEEDINGS ON FITZPATRICK RESIDENCE. City Attorney Currie reported this <br />building was being torn down and suggested this matter be dropped from agenda. <br />Abatement proceedings on barn to be continued until February 2nd meeting. Council- <br />man Swift moved that abatement proceedings re: residence be dropped from agenda, <br />seconded by Councilman Britschgi. Motion carried. <br />FRIENDLY ACRES ANNEXA'T i -ON. Councilman McNulty stated he was of the opinion the majority <br />of the residents were in favor of annexation, stating further, that before making '"w", <br />the necessary motion, he wanted the minutes to record the fact that other than w1d+' <br />police and fire protection, it would probably be some time before any further <br />improvements such as water mains, street lights, etc., could be expected. Council- <br />man McNulty then moved that City Clerk be instructed to forward the necessary <br />papers to the Secretary of State at Sacramento. Motion was seconded by Councilman <br />Swift. Under the question, several people in the audience spoke against the <br />annexation after which Councilman Britschgi stated he was going to vote against the <br />measure inasmuch as he did not feel that the City had anything to offer the people <br />of Friendly Acres stating further that he believed the City had not the facilities <br />to take on this additional burden. Motion carried on ro11 call, Councilman <br />Britschgi voting No. Councilman Granger noted absent. <br />BROADWAY No. 3 IMPROVEMENT. City Attorney Currie reported still checking with the <br />engineer and suggested this be carried on agenda until February 2nd giving engineer <br />time to study plans and specifications. Placed on agenda. <br />GROSS BUILDING. According to statement of City Attorney Currie abatement notice will be <br />posted immediately and hearing will be held at next Council meeting February 2nd. <br />STA'T'US OF EMPLOYEES SALARY INCREASE. There being a number of questions concerning the <br />status of certain personnel who were not qualified employees of the City, and some <br />matters not yet taken care of, City Attorney Currie suggested that the matter be <br />carried on agenda until there can be a meeting of the Board of Review, and further <br />stated that this will not effect realses when ordinance is passed as -it will be <br />retroactive to January 1st. <br />COUNCILMAN McNULTY INQUIRED if one could have a repair shop in a service station. At <br />present no Fire Prevention Ordinance covers this but one is contemplated, accord- <br />ing to Chief Lodi, under which this type of work will not be permitted in city <br />areas. The use of a welding torch around a gasoline station is dangerous and will <br />be prohibited. Contemplated ordinance will provide that such repair work must be <br />carried on at required distance from the gasoling storage facilities. <br />COUNCILMAN BRITSCHGI BROUGHT UP THE SUBJECT OF POSSIi3LE SALARY INCREASE FOR NEWLY <br />ELECTED COUNCILMEN. His suggestion was for the purpose of attracting a high class � <br />of candidate to run for the coming election and proposed a $100 per month salary <br />instead of the present salary of $20 -which the present Councilmen receive. Council- <br />man Werder stated he wanted to call attention to the fact that present Councilmen <br />receive. Councilman Werder stated he wanted to call attention to the fact that <br />present Councilmen would not be eligible to receive any increase during the present <br />term of office. City Attorney Currie was directed to check into the necessary <br />
