4 52 <br />recommended that the Council agree to the raise ise in policies. Mayor Werder asked <br />- <br />for figures of approximate additional cost. Administrative Assistant Miller <br />could not quote the exact figures but informed the Council that the cost would be <br />just about double as the City's contribution was the same as the employee's and <br />varied according to age. Councilman Morgan moved that this be put on the agenda <br />pending details, cost to the city, and ways and means of meeting this additional <br />expense before going ahead with recommendation of the City Employees Association. <br />Motion received a second from Councilman Spillers and carried. <br />APPOINTMENT TO FILL VACANCY ON PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION left by the resignation <br />of Mr. R. McIntosh. In accordance with the provisions of Ordinance No. 525, the <br />City Manager, E. A. Rolison, appointed Mr. William Hanley to fill the vacancy, <br />his term to expire on April 12, 1951, if this should meet with the approval of the <br />Council. Councilman Granger moved that the recommendation of City Manager Rolison <br />be approved, seconded by Councilman Britschgi, and carried. <br />MISS.ANNIE F. OFFERMANN, 1018 MAIN STREET, AGAIN APPEARED AND PROTESTED THE LARGE DOUBLE <br />GATES installed in the sidewalk on Jefferson Avenue by the Pacific -Gas & Electric <br />Company, and claimed that pedestrians had to walk in the street when these were <br />open and they were open much of the time. Miss Offermann thought this belonged in <br />the street and asked that the Council request the Pacific Gas & Electric Company <br />to remove them from her sidewalk to the street. City Attorney Currie thought <br />something could be done and offered to meet with the engineers. Mayor Werder <br />suggested this be put on the agenda for the next meeting, City officials.to report <br />at that time. Miss Off ermann was concerned about the Telephone Company installing <br />a telephone line along her property on Middlefield Road and did not want -an umbrella <br />tree removed, but was informed by City Engineer Jain that the telephone company would <br />tunnel for this and would have to replace grass or sidewalk if this was torn up. <br />AN ORDINANCE CHANGING CERTAIN STREET NAMES WAS READ BY CITY CLERK RALPH DODGE. Mr. Chas. <br />Howard appeared and protested the changing of such names. Mayor Werder explained <br />to those present who were there for the purpose of protesting the change of street <br />names that this recommendation came to the C ouncil from the Planning Commission, <br />that the change of names had been considered because of similarity. Those protesting <br />stated they did not know of such changes taking place until this date. The Mayor <br />then asked that they appear before the Planning Commission and state their protests. <br />Councilman Morgan moved that the hearing be duly and regularly continued until the <br />meeting of July 6th, the matter to be referred back to the Planning Commission for <br />a public hearing on the part of the citizens who had objections, seconded by Council- <br />man Holmquist. Motion carried. Those present were informed that the next Planning <br />Commission meeting would be the second Monday in July (12th), at 8:00 P.M. in the <br />Council Chamber. The clerk, Ralph Dodge, was to notify Mr. John V. Deal, 851 <br />Hampton Way, of the meeting. Councilman G ranger moved that an affidavit of publi- <br />cation be filed, seconded Councilman Britschgi, and carried. <br />MAYOR WERDER ASKED FOR A REPORT FROM THE REAL ESTATE COMMITTEE, BEFORE THE FOLLOWING <br />RESOLUTIONS WERE ADOPTED. City Collector Perrin had recommended that the bid of <br />9320 by Camille Santos, 911 Valota Road, for Lot 3, Block 1, Magruders Resubdivision <br />of Lot 23, W. W. & M. Subdivision, be rejected on advice of the Engineering Depart- <br />ment. Councilman Holmquist stated the Real Estate Committee was in accord with <br />the recommendation of City Collector Perrin.
