APPLICATION FOR USED AUTOMOBILE PERMIT, CUDDY MOTOR COMPANY, 413 LATHROP STREET. This
application was held up pending information from the City Collector. Mr. Cuddy was
to appear with proper credentials showing he was not out of business for a period
after December 1947 and allowed license to expire. A letter was presented stating
that Mr. Cuddy had been appointed as representative of Light Car Motors, Los Angeles,
and his permit from the State was dated as of January 1, 1948. Under these circum-
stances Mr. Perrin recommended acceptance of a $30 delinquent fee. Applicant paid $125 for license fee in Palo Alto. After discussion it
was decided that this type of business should be added as a new classification to
the Business License Ordinance and on motion of Councilman Granger, City Attorney
Currie was to prepare an amendment and Mr. Meyer was to apply again under that basis,
seconded by Councilman Britschgi. On recommendation that $50 per month would be
an acceptable fee, Mr. Granger included this recommendation as an amendment to the
motion, seconded by Councilman Britschgi. Motion carried.
REPORT OF LIBRARY COMMITTEE. Councilman Granger submitted a tentative report as addi-
tional research would be necessary before a final report could be recommended.
A
Community Park was considered a suitable location for a future branch, due to the
'Tgeographical center of population. One or more reading rooms could be located in
suitable areas on part time programs, where children did not live within reasonable
distance of the main library. A reading room should be located in an area near
Five Points and this project should be considered Priority No. 1. Friendly Acres
was given consideration with one to be located between Friendly Acres and Redwood
Village, and should be accomplished when the location for the new Fire House had
been selected. At that time a room could be used as a reading room and later be
reverted to the Fire Department. Stafford Park was considered, a suitable combina-
tion structure could be arranged that would be a credit to the surroundings. The
Council and Library Committees wished additional time to present a more detailed
recommendation. Councilman Britschgi moved that report be accepted including re-
quest for more time for further study, seconded by Councilman Holmquist, and carried.
