497
$1000 placed in Creek Committee Fund for engineering expenses. The first step was
to work on floodgates located on Bay side of Main Street bridge and get them in, in
four or five months, but engineering estimates were necessary. Councilman Holmquist
pointed out that the 1944 Bond Act provided bond money for drainage and flood con-
trol. Councilman Britschgi complimented the committee for their work and added that
money was available from the State Public Works Fund.- Councilman Holmquist further
stated that $3000 was for the Maple Street retaining wall, $3300 for Creeks and
Channels which could not be used -until the Creek Project was started. There was
$65,000 in that fund and $2,901.50 had been spent on the Hudson & Redwood Avenue
intersection. City Attorney concurred if the money was in the bond fund it was all
right to spend it for this purpose. Councilman Spillers moved that request be granted
` for $1000 to be placed in Creek Committee -Fund, seconded by Councilman Swift, and
carried. Mayor Werder thanked the committee for their work. The committee was to
meet on Tuesday.
ANNIE OFFERMANN PROTESTED P.G.& E. PIT IN FRONT OF HER PROPERTY ON JEFFERSON, and again
requested the Council to ask the P.G.& E. to remove it. According to the sketch it
was to have been located in the driveway although there were no dimensions. Council-
man Britschgi moved that City Manager Rolison instructed P.G.& E. to remove the pit
immediately and also the guide wire, seconded by Councilman Swift. Motion carried.
Miss Offermann also objected to the charge of $15 for dirt removed from her yard and
stated there was a little over two loads and that she thought it could all have been
removed in two loads. She was willing to pay $10. Councilman Spillers moved that
$10 be accepted, seconded by Councilman Swift. Miss Offermann was under the impres-
sion that the charge was $5.00 per load. City Engineer Jain stated the charge was
$5.00 per hour and the loads were hauled to the City Dump. Miss Offermann praised
the done by the Pacific Tel & Tel Company on replacement of her sidewalk. There
were rainwater approaches to the sidewalk and the contractor from the Telephone
Company broke up the sidewalk and cut roots of her umbrella tree. She was told it
wasn't lawful to have approached to the sidewalk. She had a plumber put them in.
The Telephone, Gas Company and City have pipes between sidewalk and the curbs.
City Engineer Jain stated the Telephone Company would replace the redrock they
removed.
JACK R. WALLACE, REPRESENTATIVE OF THE 20-30 CLUB, KEY IN CAR MOVEMENT. Mr. Wallace
appeared and stated this was primarily designed to educate the public not to leave
keys in their car. Request was made to put up banners at California and Broadway,
Middlefield & Broadway, Main & Broadway and Main & Middlefield, and approximately
where the Redwood City Rodeo banner hung. Banners were in the shape of an ignition
key 2 x 4 feet. Stencils of a key would be painted on sidewalks with water base
paint. Councilman Holmquist moved that the permit be granted, as it was a worthy
project, seconded by Councilman Swift. Councilman Granger asked if the club would
take out insurance, in the event a banner -should fall, there would be some protec-
tion. Councilman Holmquist included in the motion that the permit be fora period
of ten days, necessary evidence of insurance to be furnished to the City prior to
erection of banners. Motion carried.
C014 ANDER P.C. KIRK, VETERANS OF FOREIGN WARS, PROTESTED TRANSFER OF FUNDS IN THE WAR
MEMORIAL BUILDING FUND TO BE APPROPRIATED FOR A SWIMMING POOL. Com.
