MR. REX BENHAM FOLLOWING UP HIS VISIT TO THE COUNCIL at meeting of March 15th regarding 383 <br />the. condition of streets, Mr. Benham requested information as to how much money was <br />available for repair of streets, also commented on amount of salaries being paid to <br />employees of Street Department. After considerable discussion it was agreed that <br />City Manager would meet with Mr. Benham at his office Tuesday evening, March 23rd <br />I- <br />at 6:30 to go over the subject in detail. <br />L RESOLUTION No. 557. Councilman Werder introduced Resolution and moved adoption removing <br />racial restriction from a deed furnished by the City covering the Northeasterly 1/2 <br />of Lot 8, Block K. Boyd and Kent Addition. Motion was seconded by Councilman <br />Holmquist, and carried on roll call. Councilman McNulty noted absent. City Attor- <br />ney Currie explained that a number of these deeds had been prepared by someone in <br />I <br />— the blank form containing the racial clause and that he was attempting to eliminate <br />this clause by the adoption of a resolution if such a procedure would be satis- <br />factory. He stated he was contacting the title company regarding this matter and <br />would report later on his findings. <br />RESOLUTION No. 557 <br />AUTHORIZING REMOVAL OF RACIAL RESTRICTIONS <br />WHEREAS, the northeasterly one-half of Lot 8, front and rear measurements, <br />Block K. Boyd and Kent Addition, was sold to the City of Redwood City for <br />delinquent taxes and Lillie Cantino thereafter purchased said lot and obtained <br />a deed from the City of Redwood City, in which deed racial restrictions were <br />inserted restricting occupancy thereof to members of the Caucasian race; and <br />WHEREAS, said property is situated in an area which is generally occupied <br />by non -Caucasians and said restrictive clause was inadvertently inserted in <br />said deed; <br />RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY that all restric- <br />tions as to racial occupancy of said property be and they are hereby removed <br />i and the owner of said property and any successor in interest is hereby freed <br />from any restrictions with respect to occupancy of said property. <br />FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution duly certified by the <br />Clerk be delivered to said Lillie Cantino for recordation. <br />Adopted.by the Council of the City of Redwood City at a regular meeting <br />thereof held on the 15th day of March, 1948, by the following vote: <br />AYES, and in favor of the adoption of the foregoing Resolution: Council- <br />men: BRITSCHGI,. Councilman Werder offered Resolution and moved adoption trans- <br />ferring an amount -not to exceed $275 from the Unbudgeted Reserve to the Chamber <br />of Commerce Publicity Fund, this money to be used to make up deficits in the <br />recent campaign to raise a sum of money for the American Heritage Funds.
