Assistant Engineer Winter also explained that material off <br />the Heteh-Hetchy lines comes directly into our system, that water used to be rusty <br />but this is a growth that has come in,,also Dr. Cook takes 15 samples each month <br />and they have met the less than 2.2" which indicates that the sample meets the <br />United States Public Health Service Drinking Water Standard. They haven't gone 1 <br />ahead with cholorinating as this has to be done within two or three hours. Council- <br />man Holmquist stated he had become quite ill about two years ago from the water, <br />that he took two samples to former City Manager and the.matter was pidgeonholed, <br />whereupon he appeared before the Council and learned that the -samples had been <br />forwarded to San Francisco. Health Inspector Hodge reported that algae is quite <br />common in water and is killed by chlorine but that they have found no pathologic <br />organisms in this water. One resident appeared and said it was necessary to drink <br />root beer and milk last summer And further stated she was gratified with Council's <br />intention to carry through on this condition. Hetch-Hetchy have admitted this <br />condition is partly their responsibility and have offered to furnish materials for <br />chlorination and equipment and we are to pay the operator's time, so stated <br />Assistant Engineer Winters. <br />FRANCIS BRITSC HGI APPEARED REPRESENTING THE PENINSULA CELEBRATION ASSOCIATION REQUESTING <br />$1900 for Fourth of July Celebration. Councilman Werder believed this should be <br />taken into consideration but that they could not bind the new Council with a <br />decision. It was the general opinion that money would be given and Councilman <br />Britschgi suggested it be put on agenda. Mayor Hilton thought it advisable that <br />request be made at next meeting. <br />MR. & MRS. P. FLORES WERE ASKED TO APPEAR BY MAYOR HILTON IN REGARDS to substandard <br />housing condition at 504 and 512 Hamilton and show cause why building should not <br />be abated. Mr. and Mrs. Flores were present but a third person appeared for them. <br />Councilman Holmquist stated he would like to inspect the house personally should <br />there be any thought of discrepancy. It was learned that 31 occupied the premises <br />instead of 44 and that people were relatives and looking for another place Health <br />Inspector Hodge advised that there were not adequate facilities for 31 persons, <br />notice had been served for them to move and they had been notified by an attorney <br />to move out. If they refuse, the Health Department will then take it to the District <br />Attorney. Council was informed that a lawyer had told the occupants they did -not <br />have to move out and if they did move it would be in front of the court house and <br />let the people do something about it, however, the Flores would consider it a favor j <br />if the people could be moved out. Further inspection will be made. <br />WEED ABATEMENT. Affidavit of _posting was ordered filed on motion of Councilman McNulty, <br />seconded by Councilman Britschgi, and carried. <br />RESOLUTION No. 561. Councilman Werder offered and moved adoption of Resolution requiring <br />abatement of Creeds, seconded by Councilman McNulty, and carried on roll call. <br />R ESOLUT ION No. 5bl <br />REQUIRING THE ABATEMENT OF A NUISANCE <br />WHEREAS, the Council of. the City of Redwood City did, on the 1st day of March, <br />1948, pass and adopt Resolution No. 550 Declaring Weeds a Nuisance and Ordering their <br />removal, in which resolution it was declared that noxious or dangerous weeds were <br />growing upon all the sidewalks, streets, avenues road, boulevards and highways in <br />said city, and upon all the lots and property in said city, which weeds are of a kind <br />which bear seeds of a wingy or downy nature and will attain such large growth as to <br />- - <br />iBF�u�& ii+ ­. ­ <br />
