<br /> " , I ,. <br /> Mayor Buchan opened the public hearing at 9:27 P.M. and invited anyone <br /> who wished to speak to please do so. <br /> Chuck Rigg, Redwood City, Roper, Majeski Attorneys, representing <br /> - Al Davies, owner of the subject property. Mr. Rigg advised that Mr. <br /> Davies did not want to sell the property and the Agency could not show a <br /> good reason to take it and give it to another private party. Mr. Rigg <br /> asked the Directors to continue this item to a later date to give all <br /> parties time to discuss better options. <br /> Mr. Al Davies advised he is sole owner of the subject property and that <br /> fact is being litigated at the present time. In response to Director's <br /> questions regarding what he was willing to do to make the property more <br /> compatible with Sequoia Station, Mr. Davies stated that the building was <br /> designed by a prominent architect, and he would not commit to any <br /> specific improvements at that time. <br /> Redevelopment Agency Attorney Hildebrand advised that Mr. Al Davies and <br /> his sister-in-law, Mrs. Rosalie Davies each had a 50% share of the <br /> property and the Kopf's had a lease with option to buy from the Davies'. <br /> Mr. Hildebrand advised that Safeway had owner participation rights. <br /> Carol Mittlesteadt, Redwood City Attorney representing Rosalie Davies, <br /> advised that her client is one-half owner of the property, and Mrs. <br /> Davies is willing to work with the City on improvements that would make <br /> the property more compatible with Sequoia Station. Ms. Mittlesteadt <br /> asked the Directors to continue this item to allow her client to work <br /> with the Agency on improvements to the property. <br /> - Director Church asked the Directors to advise staff if they were willing <br /> to contemplate moving the dealership; and, if they were not, then staff <br /> would not begin the process of looking into redevelopment of that site. <br /> In response to Director's questions, Director Church provided background <br /> regarding inclusion of the subject site into the Redevelopment Area in <br /> January, 1990. <br /> Robert Kopf, operator and one owner of the Park Chevrolet franchise and <br /> leaseholder of the subject site, stated his desire to remain at that <br /> location, his belief that there was no other comparable location <br /> available and explained the limits on locations imposed by franchise <br /> laws. Mr. Kopf described the one half million dollars worth of <br /> upgrading already done, and expressed willingness to do more to improve <br /> appearance. <br /> Michael Hitchcock, Redwood Avenue, Redwood City, spoke in favor of <br /> leaving the auto dealership in that location at Jefferson and E1 Camino <br /> Real which would secure the jobs of auto mechanics who earn higher wages <br /> than minimum wage retail workers. <br /> - Redevelopment Agency Mi nutes <br /> August 16, 1993 MINUTE BOOK NO.1 <br /> Page 3 Page No. 129 <br />
