8.A. - Page 35 <br />the immediate vicinity of the find until a qualified archaeologist or paleontologist <br />is consulted to determine the significance of the find, and has recommended <br />appropriate measures to protect the resource. Further disturbance of the resource <br />shall not be allowed until those recommendations deemed appropriate by the City <br />of Redwood City have been implemented. <br />Finding: Implementation of Mitigation Measure Cultural Resources -3 would reduce <br />impacts to paleontological resources or unique geologic features to a less -than - <br />significant level. <br />Facts in Support of Finding: Implementation of Mitigation. Measure Cultural Resources -3 <br />would reduce impacts to paleontological resources or unique geologic features by <br />requiring consultation with a qualified archaeologist or paleontologist in the event <br />of a find, as described on page 3.4-8 of the Draft EIR, which is hereby <br />incorporated by reference. <br />Impact 3.4-4 <br />Impact: The project would have the potential to disturb human remains, including those <br />interred outside of formal cemeteries. <br />Mitigation: Mitigation Measure Cultural Resources -4: State Health and Safety Code <br />Section 7050.5 requires that work stop immediately if human remains are found. <br />No further disturbance shall occur until the San Mateo County Coroner has made <br />the necessary findings as to origin and disposition pursuant to Public Resources <br />Code 5097.98. The coroner has 24 hours to notify the NAHC if the remains are <br />determined to be of Native American descent. The commission shall then contact <br />the most likely descendent of the deceased Native American, who will then serve <br />as a consultant on how to proceed with the remains (e.g., avoidance, reburial). <br />Work at the site shall not resume until such remains have been treated in the <br />manner agreed upon by all interested parties. <br />Finding: Implementation of Mitigation Measure Cultural Resources -4 would reduce <br />impacts to unknown buried human remains to a less -than -significant level. <br />Facts in Support of Finding: Implementation of Mitigation Measure Cultural Resources -4 <br />would reduce impacts to unknown buried human remains, if encountered during <br />ground disturbing construction activities, by halting work in the immediate <br />vicinity, notifying the county coroner, and by consulting with interested parties <br />regarding treatment of the remains. Impact 3.4-4 and proposed mitigation is <br />described on pages 3.4-8 and 3.4-9 of the Draft EIR, which are hereby <br />incorporated by reference. <br />Geolo2v and Soils <br />Impact 3.5-1 <br />Impact: The project area is located in an area subject to strong ground shaking from an <br />earthquake on a nearby potentially active fault.
