These are graded pzapertm with
complea drainage symms, unusual geology, and a shWe route of aceems through an a bablidW
neighborhood with feeder roads ahcady inadequate for the traffic they mM t be forced to bear.
Irrespec.-tivv of the UMFWCdCrACd complexity of this project, the Redwood City Planning Commission
approved the Enmronmentsl hmpac.t Report for the Laurel Way development; and most remarkably, did
so nearly unanimously and without sabstaative objection. That a major spea kdva developmwat could
be imposed an an old, established neigUkai sod, with complex geology, and basal on Vote laid out
nearly a nay nip, and without smous objectdom fiam the planni w commmu nn seems to me to be
mot cred"e.
The idea of so many djwmm acted hm&wu= grog togetlrer to p ah tbrough a mxjo r project like
this is also unnp ted. If this vcc n a single eloper who hoped to build a oohwent prged and to
do so within some reasonable time-fiamc, it Haight be tolerable to ftm of us who will have to live
immediately adjacimt to the chu% trafc, and emvuoumental degradation, but m tint, them w no
oohemmt schedule: to develop the lots, which mesas this landowners could taus a decade to build on.
schedules am they please, inalikoally insulting in ten yam or more of oongtruWcm traffic burdening an
already sub-st mdar,d set of access roads.
I hope that the City Council will take this issm more semiously than did the Planning Commission. If
V= is real concern for the integrity of our ncigbbod=& and the preservation of our mviromrncat,
then this is the sort of activity that slnauld warrant the closest scrutiny.
Most since rdy,
Russell L. Kerschmann, MD.
3737 LawW Way
Redwood City, CA 94062
