8.A. - Page 394
ATTAcHmENr- -E -CIL .
 u
Redwood City Planning Commission i4AR 2 () 2013
OF
c/o Redwood City Planning and Housing Division cPP1ANNING SOoF'
1017 Middlefield .Road
Redwood City, CA 94063
Laurel Way Development
The new plan we saw looks like it is going to allow very large homes on very small lots.
The steep slope of the lots, without test drill holes to bedrock, makes it inadvisable to
allow such large homes. The city gets to determine the size of the houses on it not the
developers. The city was supposed to develop a plan for infill -zoning for hillside lots.
From the proposal the homes will be twice the size of the existing neighborhood homes
on small steep lots. It is against all the existing slope rules for development_
We would be very interested to see the city zoning and development plan for these types
of lots. Has it been developed and proposed to the public yet?
The other issue I have is traffic and the poor quality of Highland Avenue and Laurel
Way. Highland Avenue is determined to be an unimproved street, what ever that means.
It is poorly paved, the city just puts in inadequate patches that crumble under the traffic
of the fire trucks and is used as a through street rather than the neighborhood street it is.
Not only is the street poorly maintained it is hazardous. Highland needs to be re -graded
and then repaved to take fire trucks and increased traffic due to there proposed 16 new,
very large houses.
Laurel Way has its problems as well. The street is sliding down the hill. Large fissures
are developing showing how the city paved street is breaking up. Also the curb catches
water rather than carrying it to Highland where it becomes surface drainage and adds to
the wear and tear of lower Highland Avenue.
It is our opinion that the lots need to be developed as housing which confirms to the
slope/lot size standards currently in place.
JiEd ,
Martin Kam
3670 Highland Av nue
(corner of Laurel Way)
Redwood City, CA 94062
