8.B. - Page 28
The facades of the residences in the vicinity of the site are either wooden siding or stucco, and some
have stone embellishments.
Valota Road in the vicinity of the project site is a two-lane roadway with sidewalks on both sides.
Views of the project site from Valota Road and from residences surrounding the property are
sporadic and limited because the perimeter of the property is bordered by mature trees, shrubs, and
other vegetation (see Photo 8).
4.1.1.3 Light and Glare
Sources of light and glare in the project area are those typical of an urban setting and include
streetlights on Valota Road, perimeter lighting on the houses, and reflective surfaces on the houses
such as windows.
4.1.2 Environmental Checklist and Discussion of Impacts
AESTHETICS
Less Than
Potentially Significant Less Than
Significant With Significant No Impact Beneficial Information
Impact Mitigation Impact Impact Source(s)
Incorporated
Would the project:
1) Have a substantial adverse effect on a
scenic vista? 1'2
2) Substantially damage scenic 1,2
resources,including,but not limited
to,trees,rock outcroppings,and
historic buildings within a state scenic
highway?
3) Substantially degrade the existing 1,2
visual character or quality of the
site and its surroundings?
4) Create a new source of substantial 1,2
light or glare which would adversely
affect day or nighttime views in the
area?
4.1.2.1 Aesthetic Impacts
The project site is surrounded by one- and two-story single-family residences and multi-family
housing located on parcels which are smaller than the project site parceL Implementation of the
proposed project would remove the existing one-story single-family residence on-site and construct
five new single-family residences on lots that are,by comparison, more consistent in size with the lot
sizes of the surrounding neighborhood. The proposed project is on a developed site within an urban
area. Redwood Creek in the vicinity of the project site does not have a riparian zone. The creek
flows through a concrete drainage channel and is not a scenic resource. Restoration of the creek in
the project area is not feasible due to adjacent development which consists of an established,built-
out residential neighborhood. Implementation of the project would not damage a scenic resource.
(Less Than Significant Impact)
The project would construct five two-story houses that are consistent with the surrounding residential
land uses. Because the project would build residences of relatively the same size and scale as the
1410 Valota Road Residential Project 16 Initial Study
Redwood City January 2012
