8.B. - Page 53
4.8 HAZARDS AND HAZARDOUS MATERIALS
4.8.1 Existin Settin
All of Redwood City, including the project site,is located within the San Carlos Airport Influence
Area(AIA). The project site is not located within the vicinity of a private airstrip. The project site is
not near wildlands or otherwise subject to wildland fires.
4.1.8.1 On-Site Sources of Contamination
The project site is not located on a site included on any list compiled pursuant to Section 65962.5 of
the Government Code (Cortese List).
Lead-Based Paint and Asbestos
Lead was banned as an additive in paint in 1978. Asbestos containing materials (ACMs)were
banned from many building materials in 1989. The existing single-family residence on the project
site was constructed prior to 1978 and could contain lead-based paint and/or ACMs.
Agricultural Use Impacts
Historically,Redwood City was not used for major or large-scale agricultural production.
Agricultural uses were generally limited to harvesting timber and small-scale farming and livestock
activities. It is unlikely that the project site was used for farming.
4.8.1.2 Off-Site Sources of Contamination
There are no sites in the vicinity of the project site listed on the California Department of Toc
Substances Control (DTSC)Envirostor database, which is a listing of hazardous substance release
sites selected for, and subject to, a response action.
The Regional Water Quality Control Board(RWQCB)has a Geotracker database that keeps track of
cleanup sites. The Geotracker database lists one leaking underground storage tank (LUST)within
one half mile of the project site, appromately 0.40 miles west at 2108 Roosevelt Avenue.
Groundwater in the vicinity of the LUST flows in an east-northeastern direction which is cross-
gradient of the project site. Additionally, there are two LUST sites within a half mile of the project
site to the northeast that have been remediated and issued case closure status. None of the listed
LUST sites are located on properties on or immediately adjacent to the project site and there is no
risk of direct soil contamination from documented off-site sources.
The Cortese List is a plaming document that provides information about the location of hazardous materials
release sites.
Conestoga-Rovers&Associates.
