Based on the Redwood City Noise Contour Maps (Figures PS-11 and PS-12 in the General
Plan), Lots 3, 4, and 5 are located in the 55 dBA and lower noise contour, therefore, Lots 3, 4, and 5
would be consistent with City standards.
Lots 1 and 2 of the proposed project would be located within the 55 dBA and higher noise contours
because of their promity to Valota Road which generates noise levels of up to 70 dBA. The State
of California Building Code Title 24 standards and the City of Redwood City require that interior
noise levels within new residential units not exceed 45 dBA Ld,,. To achieve interior noise standards,
the Redwood City General Plan requires the completion of acoustical analyses, as appropriate, for
proposed stand-alone residential development located in areas with exterior noise levels that are 55
dBA and higher.
Lot 2 would be somewhat shielded from traffic noise by the residential building on Lot 1 but could
still be exposed to noise levels of 55 to 60 dBA which is up to five decibels louder than the City's
acceptable noise level for medium density residential development. Lot 1 would be exposed to noise
levels of up to 70 dBA. Because Lots 1 and 2 of the proposed project could be exposed to exterior
noise levels that are in excess of the City's normally acceptable noise levels for residential medium-
1410 Valota Road Residential Project 58 Initial Study
Redwood City January 2012
