8.B. - Page 86
facilities and system capacity to serve the City. Improvement projects ranging from rehabilitation of
existing pump stations and replacement of aging sewer infrastructure are completed yearly. In
August 2008, Redwood City completed an evaluation of the sewer capacity analysis that provided a
list of improvements that are necessary to support future planned growth through the year 2030. The
project is a part of the residential growth anticipated for Redwood City which would be served by the
improvements identified in the City's CIP. Implementation of the project would not, therefore,
adversely affect the functionality or capacity of the sanitary sewer or wastewater treatment facilities.
(Less Than Significant Impact)
4.17.2.3 Storm Drainage
The existing site is 21 percent impervious. The proposed project would increase impervious surfaces
at the project site by appromately 11 percent. Redwood Creek in the vicinity of the project site
flows through a concrete lined drainage channel. The majority of stormwater runoff from the project
site would drain into the channel. The project site would be graded to direct water towards bioswales
located between the residences. Stormwater would be filtered through bioswales located between the
residences and then drained into a detention pipe at that back of the properties. The water would be
discharged through an outlet into Redwood Creek located in the back of the property. Redwood
Creek has sufficient capacity to accommodate the minimal increase in stormwater runoff from the
proposed project. (Less Than Significant Impact)
The only stormwater that would enter the Valota Road drainage system would be from the private
driveway on Lot 1. The driveway would be constructed with pervious pavers, and stormwater runoff
from the driveway onto Valota Road would be minimal. Runoff from the project site would not
exceed the capacity of the Valota Road drainage system. (Less Than Significant Impact)
4.17.2.4 Solid Waste Impacts
The project would generate approximately 43 pounds of solid waste per day52 which is 34.4 pounds
per day more than the esting use. The project would be served by an esting landfill with
substantial remaining capacity. New landfill facilities would not need to be constructed to service
the proposed project. (Less Than Significant Impact)
4.17.3 Conclusion
Implementation of the proposed project will not exceed the capacity of esting utility and service
systems that serve Redwood City. (Less Than Significant Impact)
sBased on the assumed residential solid waste generation rate used in the General Plan EIR of 8.6 pounds of solid
waste per dwelling unit per day.
1410 Valota Road Residential Project 74 Initial Study
Redwood City January 2012
