City Community Development Department, with assistance from other appropriate City departments and
local, regional, and state agencies.
The work will be conducted in two phases with corresponding tasks end deliverables which include field
work, surveys, interviews, community meetings, and development of support materials and final
documents. The scope of work includes a meaningful public outreach program designed to engage the
community members, City staff, key stakeholders, government officials, and members of applicable
advisory bodies and community groups. All participants in this planning process will be provided with a
forum for expressing their ideas and concerns, which will be incorporated into the final products of this
project.
PROJECT TEAM
The Redwood City Broadway Corridor Planning Study will be prepared by the fourth—year undergraduate
students in the City and Regional Planning Department at Cal Poy enrolled in the Community Planning
Laboratories I and II during the Fall and Winter Quarters of the 2013/2014 Academic Year. The work will
be conducted as a class project under close supervision of a faculty member and two graduate student
assistants.
The Community Planning Laboratories I and II (CRP 410 and CRP 411) are organized in a sequence of
two, one-quarter long studio classes. Designed to provide a cap-stone experience for the undergraduate
seniors, these classes are structured to provide a bridge beiween the theoretical knowledge and the
application of this knowledge to `real life' planning situations. The emphasis is on providing a mechanism
which will assist the students in gaining working knowledge of the planning process in general, and
planning at the community scale in particular. This is accomplished by engaging students in community-
based projects, which provide opportunities for working with the residents, staff and government officials
during all stages of the planning process. To provide an added dimension of reality, the class is structured
to simulate the working environment of a professional planning agency with the scope of work, which
follows the guidelines established by the planning and environmental laws of the state of California.
SUMMARY SCOPE OF WORK AND TIMELINE
Work tasks listed below represent a summary of the scope of work to be conducted during the two phases
of the project conducted by the Cal Poly project team. Upon the agreement between City staff and the
class instructor some tasks and timeliness may be modified if deemed necessary. Also, additional tasks
may be added if considered beneficial to the educational objectives of the course and the overall project
outcome.
PHASE 1: Fall Quarter 2013(September 1, 2013-December 6, 2013
Tasks:
T1.1: Scope and Timelines Refinement AugusUSeptember 2013
(Day trip, project manager, 9/3/2013)
T1.2: Project Overview/Staff Visit to Cal Poly September 25, 2013
T1.3: Review of City Plans and Policy Documents September/October 2013
T1.4: Existing Characteristics/Field Work/Surveys/ October 2013
Staff Interviews (Overnight trip, all students)
T1.5: Community Workshop#1/Stakeholders Interviews!
