I . I II

REPORT: Proposed 101 Corridor Redevelopment Plan and Auto Industry Strategy,
Housing and Economic Development Specialist Cady, May 22, 1996
I) Strategies -
Redevelopment Agency Director Church said the issue before the Agency Board
was the receipt of the above mentioned Sedway Kotin Mouchly Group Report which
was ordered by the Agency Board a little over two years ago. Director Church asked
the Agency Board Directors to receive the report now and schedule a study session to
examine the Report and its recommendations in detail at a future time. Agency
Director Church advised that one of the important components of the overall
economic strategy was a proposed Auto Industry Strategy and that report was being
offered at this time as well.
Pat Webb, Chamber of Commerce, Chairperson of the subcommittee that worked on
the creation of the Economic Development Strategy, described the public/private
partnership, and the preliminary goals of the committee: retention, expansion and
attraction of business in order to generate jobs and tax revenues. Chairperson Webb
listed the participants in the process: Redwood City Council, Redevelopment
Agency, Chamber of Commerce, Consultant Amy Herman, and Redwood City
Neighborhood Associations. Chairperson Webb described the committee's work in
refining the goals, conducting research, developing strategies and an action plan, and
developing market tools, if necessary.
-
Chairperson Webb said the Chamber's role was to provide support, advice, and the
forum for all the meetings (15). She added that right before the Agency's action, the
Chamber had adopted a strategic plan, plan of action and a mission statement: To
promote economic prosperity for our community through business representation and
advocacy with emphasis on information, communication and education. She said the
Agency's goals dovetailed very well with the Chamber's action plan.
Chairperson Webb thanked and introduced the hard working committee members, a
cross-section of the business community and a representative ITom the neighborhood
Association Board: Don Warren, Don Saye, Bob Petersen, Frank Baltado, Larry
Buckmaster, Alan Beals, Jack Greenalch, Councilman Ruskin, Michael Church,
Michael Cady and John Svoboda, and other members who attended when they could,
Michael Verdone and Paul Shepherd.
Chairperson Webb described the committee's work on refining the goals and the
Agency's approval of a consultant who could prepare the technical data needed to
complete the report, Amy Herman of the Sedway Kotin Mouchly Group. Chairman
Webb said the process had been very comprehensive and there had been opportunities
for broad based representation from the community. She urged the Agency board of
Directors to accept the report and schedule a study session to examine the report in
detail. -
MINU~E BOOK NO.1 Special Redevelopment Agency Meeting Minutes
Page No. 302 May 22, 1996
Page 2
