Z Environrnentrl Analysi,r
review of the historical range of the species, suitable habitat in the action;irea, and the absence af
baxriers that would prevent passage of these species into or through the ara (see Appendix D for a
discussion af the selectian criteria). The site assessment conducted for te BRS found no evidence
of any of these endangered and special status species in the project area.
Central Ca.lifamia coast steelhead (Oncorbyachars myk,i.rs aridieus). The central California
coast steelhead (CCC) has been federally listed as threatened. Critical habitat for CCC
includes estuarine waters. Wildlife corridors are xautes that animals regularly and
predictablp follow during seasonal migration, dispersal from native ranges, daily travel
within home ranges, and inter-population movements. While CCC could forage or rest in
the area,Redwood Creek is not classified as spawning habitat.:survey was conducted
along Redwood creek in August 1981 as part of a fish distriburion study for the presence
of steelhead trout. Neithex the north branch nor the sauth branch site contained steelhead
(Leidp 2005). The CCC was not observed during the site assessment and has a low
potential of occurring within the project area.
+ Green sturgeon (.cipensermedirostris}. The green sturgeon {GS) is listed as federally
threatened by tle NMFS. GS are commorily found in estuarine areas throughout the San
Francisco Bay and are considered year round residents within the 5an Francisco Bay. The
areas below the ordinary kugh water mark, including Redwood Cxeek, axe designated as
critical habitat. GS would+-Eia ate in and out of the area with the tides. Biologists
determined that the likelihood for GS to occur within.the immediate vicinitp of the
project is low.
• Tidewater goby {Eucyclogobiu.r newberrya). The tidewatex goby (TG) is listed as a federally
endangered species by the USFWS. TG was nat observed during the site assessment.
Tppically, tle TG is typically found in marshes, estuaxies, and lagoons where water is still,
but not stagnant. Redwood Creek is tidally influenced and teceives stormwater runoff.
The TG has a low potential occur within or near the project area.
• Califomia black rail (Lateradlusjamaacen.ris cotimuculus). The California black tail (CBR) has
been designated by the CDFW as threatened and fully protected. Tall grasses and dense
areas of pickleweed neax the tidal flooding zone of the creeiprovide suitable nesring
habitat. CBR was not observed duting the site assessment, and no suitable habitat was
found within the proposed project area. The presence of adjacent suitable habitat
suggests that CBR may occur within ar near the project area.
California clapper rail (Aallars Iongirostrl.r ob.rodetsss). The Califonia clapper rail (CCR) is
listed as an endangered species by botl the CDFW and T1SFv'S. CCR was not observed
dwng the site assessment, and no suitable habitat was foundtithin the project area.
However, areas surrounding the project axea contain suitable habitat for the CCR. The
CCR may be present within or near the project area.
Califomia least tern (Stemula anillarrrnr hmnz). The California least tern (CL'1 is listed bp
the USFWS as endangered due to the loss of foraging and coastal habitat.
