6.A. - Page 13
Edgewood is individually eligible for listing at the local level as a rare intact and
early example of the Ranch style in the Wellesley Park area.
b. 599 Edgewood Road (Staff)
Ms. Linda Marie Roche, property owner of 599 Edgewood Road, gave a
presentation to the committee. She is interested in having the home designated
as a historic landmark by the City. She discussed the history and character of
the property and the improvements that she has done to the exterior and interior
of the home. She sought feedback from the committee on two issues before
commissioning a DPR report by an architectural historian: 1) Would
photographic evidence of the home's initial appearance be essential to
understanding the integrity of the exterior, or would the assessment of a
qualified preservation professional be sufficient? 2) Do interior features weigh
heavily in considering whether a structure is eligible for listing, or is the
determination made exclusively based on the exterior?
The Committee stated that the assessment of a qualified professional is
sufficient. Chair Rolandelli also stated that they have not previously designated
a home as a historic landmark for a property based its interior. While not
unanimous in their sentiment, a majority of the members felt that having a
historian undertake an assessment of the home would probably be a worthwhile
endeavor, although they cautioned the property owner that it could not be
guaranteed that this would result in the designation of the home as a historic
landmark.
4. Path of History Damaged Plaque (Staff)
Mr. Zack gave an update on the damaged plaque and replacement.
5. Mayor's Pride and Beautification Award (Chair Rolandelli)
Chair Rolandelli noted that he would like to nominate the Sequoia High School
Woodshop building for the Best Historic Rehabilitation/Adaptive Reuse.
6. Main Street Historic District Expansion Update (Chair Rolandelli)
A brief update was given on the item. Mr. Zack has completed photographing the
contributing structures to the district. It was noted that 1101 Main Street was
mislabeled.
7. Window Rehabilitation Program (Vice Chair Gernand)
Mr. Zack will resend the RFP, which was prepared by Mr. Gernand, to the members of
the committee to review, and if no comments are submitted by April 24, 2013, he will
proceed and Chair Rolandelli will meet with the CD Director, Bill Ekern, for the next
steps.
8. Mt. Carmel Area Potential Historic District Update (Chair Rolandelli)
Chair Rolandelli stated that he needed the most current version of the map dated
August of 2011, to review.
9. Jose Moya Del Pino Post Office Mural Potential Plaque (Chair Rolandelli)
Chair Rolandelli read an email from Mr. Gernand, providing an update on the item.
10. National Historic Preservation Month (Chair Rolandelli)
LEGAL22641265.1
