ATTACHMENT 2 <br /> US101/84 Woodside Road Inte9.B. - Page 6 <br /> SAN MATED COUNTY PA/ED Phase <br /> adfrano Transportation <br /> Authority <br /> Existing Purpose and Need 2 <br /> The Purpose of the proposed project is to alleviate the congestion on SR 84 (Woodside Rd) at US Route 101. <br /> Primary purpose includes improving highway operations, Ramp intersection LOS and LOS at the Broadway/ <br /> Woodside Rd, Veterans Blvd/Woodside Rd, and Blomquist St/Woodside Rd intersections. <br /> The existing five-legged intersection at Broadway and Woodside Rd operates at a Level of Service F in the AM <br /> and PM peak hour.This intersection causes back up at the US Route 101 southbound off ramp and in <br /> westbound and eastbound Woodside Rd at this intersection. In addition, Veterans Blvd intersection is also <br /> affected by the congestion at Broadway as the backup extends into this intersection. The free-flow <br /> movements of the US Route 101 southbound off-ramp to eastbound Woodside Rd, eastbound Woodside Rd <br /> to northbound US Route 101 and southbound US Route 101 off-ramp to southbound Woodside Rd all <br /> contribute to the uncontrolled influx of traffic to these two intersections. Finally, the intersection at <br /> Blomquist St and Woodside Rd operates at LOS F. <br /> In addition to improving highway operations and local intersection operations, consideration will be given to <br /> the addition of bike lanes on Woodside Rd.This feature will be prioritized but weighed against the primary <br /> improvements mentioned above. Finally, existing non-standard features within our project limits will be <br /> considered for improvements. Should this feature undermine the above improvements, it will be <br /> reconsidered. <br /> 2 Per Alternative Analysis Study dated 10-7-11 <br />
