<br /> C. Council Member Ira stated that stray newspapers racks are being placed <br /> throughout town. Community Development Director Nelson explained how <br /> the regulations are written and indicated staff would look into the issue. <br /> D. Council Member Ira reported that one of the business owners downtown expressed <br /> interest in outdoor seating. Staff was directed to refer the issue to the Planning <br /> Commission for further consideration. Community Development Director Nelson <br /> said she would report back to the Council; however, she indicated that the restriction <br /> for outdoor seating pertained to the appropriate width of the sidewalk. <br /> E. Vice Mayor Ruskin reported that the Council's El Camino Task Force met for the <br /> first time last week. Council's mandate was to beautify El Camino Real. The team <br /> was divided into two subcommittees - a long-range planning subcommittee <br /> composed of Council Member Hartnett, representatives from the Architectural <br /> Review Committee and Planning Commission, citizens and staff. The other <br /> subcommittee, composed of Vice Mayor Ruskin, Council Member Leipzig, a <br /> Planning Commission representative, and staff, plans to focus on immediate effects <br /> such as landscaping, entry features, beautifying the islands, working with CalTrans, <br /> etc. <br /> F. Mayor Howard announced the retirement of Ms. Arlyn Jorgenson, City Clerk, <br /> effective August 28, 1998. Mayor Howard stated that the Council Personnel <br /> Committee, composed of she, Council Members Claire and Hartnett would be <br /> involved in the hiring process for Ms. Jorgenson's replacement. <br /> MIS: HartnettlIra, and unanimously approved that the Personnel Committee <br /> proceed with the process. (204) <br /> MINUTE ORDER NO. 98-234 <br /> By proclamation, Council Member Ira was appointed alternate to the Personnel <br /> Committee. <br /> G. Mr. Bob Rewak, Redwood City resident, announced that the 1998 Junior All Stars <br /> of Redwood City came within one game of winning the 1998 Little League World <br /> Series championship. Mr. Rewak provided a history of the team's record this past <br /> year. <br /> Mr. Rewak introduced coaches Henry Olsen, Kevin Jennings, and Ernest Spencer, <br /> who was not present.
