He noted that 50 <br /> percent is a State requirement and many other San Mateo cities reach for 60 percent. <br /> One Council Member expressed his excitement for this ordinance. <br /> Vice Mayor Gee thanked Mr. Ekern for bringing this forward. He stated that 60 percent <br /> is doable and he has seen contractors voluntarily working on this, but this will formalize <br /> it and give the City credit. Another Council Member stated that it would be beneficial if <br /> this were publicized. STUDY SESSION(S) <br /> A Downtown Parking Study <br /> Recommendation: <br /> Receive presentation on the Downtown Parking Study and provide guidance <br /> to staff. <br /> Mr. Bill Ekern gave an overview of the timeline for the Downtown Parking Study <br /> (presentation on file). He stated that putting the parking into practice has changed it <br /> slightly from what it is on paper. He stated that they need to figure out how to recognize <br /> issues and where Staff should move now given what has happened. He spoke about <br /> the original concept of the City's pricing, hours of operation, and equipment, and how <br /> that might need to be adjusted because of the findings of this study. During the <br /> construction period, it is important to move the City's fleet vehicles out of the downtown <br /> and reduce permit parking. <br /> City Manager Bell spoke about how it's good that the downtown is thriving and creating <br /> parking demand. It will mean the Council needs to continue to look at the parking <br /> strategy. <br /> Public Comment <br /> Angela Rezab, representing On Broadway, spoke in support of new downtown <br /> development and the parking agreement as having been a success for both Century <br /> Theater and the city. She asked that On Broadway and Century be included in any <br /> future meetings or decisions being discussed on parking.
