Southwest Construction & Property Management has successfully
completed similar projects in the past and is a qualified contractor. Based on the bids
received and staff's review of those bids, staff believes that Southwest Construction &
Property Management's low bid is reasonable, that they are the lowest responsible
bidder, and therefore recommend awarding the contract to Southwest Construction &
Property Management.
Construction is expected to begin in February 2014 and conclude by the end of July
2014. Signage that contains project information will be posted at the construction sites
and construction updates will be available on the city's website.
ALTERNATIVES
Council may choose not to award the contract and direct staff to redesign and/or rebid
this project.
FISCAL IMPACT
Funds for the general work of this project were approved and appropriated in the Fiscal
Year 2013/14 budget as Capital Outlay Fund — Library Counter Streamlining and Library
Materials Handling Upgrade which has an available balance of $425,436.36 and
$38,728.08, respectively.
