Victor Torreano, representing the Building Trades Council and resident of Redwood
City, thanked Council for this program. He would like to see career pathways and
apprenticeships for local workforce as part of the program.
Edward Evans, representative of the Carpenters Union of San Mateo County, thanked
Council for exploring this process, and would like to offer his union's assistance. He
mentioned that other cities are also working on this like South San Francisco. He
advocated for local jobs for local people, more affordable housing, and apprenticeship.
Alex Lantsberg, field representative and research analyst with Smart Cities Prevail,
discussed promoting prevailing wages in communities. He encouraged the need for
more outreach than just (City Council) meetings and would like to see developers hire
local workers through this community process, so that all can see the benefits of hiring
locally.
Council took no action on the matter and Dr. Bell said that he got guidance needed and
will make sure the community is engaged at various levels. The Mayor agreed that it
was a challenge to reach out to everyone, but staff will do its best to be inclusive.
9. MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST
A.
