<br /> Parks, Recreation and Community Services Director Griffiths said it had been <br /> suggested that a member of each of the boards, committees and commissions attend <br /> every Council meeting and report back. <br /> Council Member Claire suggested that joint workshops with the Council and boards, <br /> committees and commissions be held perhaps on a quarterly basis. Integrate childcare <br /> City Manager Everett asked Council to consider what level of childcare should be <br /> required in new developments and give specific direction to staff. <br /> 13. Housing <br /> City Manager Everett acknowledged that this was a huge problem for all cities on the <br /> Peninsula and asked for specific direction ITom staff. <br /> 14. Partnership with the Chamber and Schools for library media centers. <br /> Library Chen advised that this issue was her personal, top priority. <br /> 15. Satisfactorv tree policv. <br /> Public Works Services Ingram explained the two-tiered tree policy, what can currently <br /> be done considering funding and workload, and implementation goals of the next fiscal <br /> year. He said staff was well positioned to make good recommendations to Council. He <br /> said the issue for the Public Works Services Department was one of time allocation. <br /> 16. Developing strong communitv based programs <br /> City Manager Everett described the increased role of Neighborhood Associations. <br /> Council Member Claire said he wanted to see new programs with the City, schools and <br /> parents, especially to identify when youth become at risk and might join a gang. He <br /> suggested the Council School Liaison Committee work on this issue. (210) <br /> MEMO 2/2/98 <br /> Council Member Ira said sports programs were great, but he wanted to see programs <br /> for arts, music and drama to give young people viable alternatives. <br /> Library Director Chen described Project Read and Kids in Partnership where an at risk <br /> teen is paired with an at risk younger student.
