b. Discuss project status with RWQCB
Further details of Task-1 to Task-5 are available on GES proposal dated December 9,
2013, proposal no. OP00001540 (Exhibit "B").
Location of Work: Wok location is in the area of Sequoia Station shopping center
property at the intersection of EI Camino Real and Jefferson Avenue in Redwood City.
Backqround: Since the mid-1990s when the Sequoia Station Shopping Center was
developed at the Northeast corner of the intersection of EI Camino and Jefferson
Avenue, soil and ground water investigations have been conducted by others at the
various parcels of land that composed the shopping center property and at nearby
properties in the vicinity of the shopping center.
Land uses at those parcels and properties have included:
■ Automotive maintenance facilities
■ Dry Cleaner facilities
■ Gasoline service stations
■ Other service uses
In the late 1990s, the Sequoia Shopping Center was redeveloped by Safeway (Major
tenants) and the site is now owned by Regency Centers.
Previous Analvsis: Due to presence of chlorinated solvents in groundwater beneath
and near the shopping center property, investigations and activities conducted by others
between approximately 1998 and 2008 focused on:
i. The apparent sources of the solvents
ii. The extent and magnitude of the solvent plume
iii. Assessment of potential human health risk associated with the solvents
iv. The need for soil or groundwater remediation
The primary chemical of concern is PCE, and to a lesser degree Trichloroethene (TCE)
and cis-1, 2-dichloroethene (cis-1, 2-DCE). Details to the various past analysis and
investigations are available on GES proposal under the Background section (Exhibit
«B„
SCHEDULE
GES will begin work on the project immediately upon receipt of written authorization
from the City. GES will conduct the site reconnaissance and review of available
information (Tasks 1 and 2), within 2 weeks of receiving authorization to proceed. Tasks
3 and 4 will be completed within 4 weeks of starting the project. Hence, a draft of the
workplan will be provided to the City for review and comment approximately one month
after receiving notice to proceed.
REV:O1-03-14 MLG
ATTY/AGR/2014.002/GROUNDWATER ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES
Page 10 of 11
