MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST (203) <br /> A. Council Member Ira said an attorney had told him today that many of his clients who are <br /> affected by the Fourth Amendment to Redevelopment Area Project No.2 had called him <br /> and were worried about the value of their property and their resale values now that they are <br /> in a "blighted area." Council Member Ira suggested that staff address this issue and <br /> answer property owner's questions. He said that Planning and Redevelopment Manager <br /> Church had a pamphlet that explained redevelopment areas and it could be very helpful in <br /> reducing property owner's worries. Council Member Ira said the plans for that area were <br /> positive, but they needed to be explained. <br /> Mayor Pro Tern Ruskin directed City Manager Everett and Manager Church to respond <br /> to these property owners with as much information as possible and as quickly as possible. <br /> MEMO 2/24/98 <br /> B. Mayor Pro Tern Ruskin announced awards recently received by several members of the <br /> Redwood City staff: Building Inspector Jerry Adan was presented with the <br /> International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials as Government Man of <br /> the Year at a recent Central California Chapter dinner; Veterans Memorial Senior <br /> Center Advisory Council was recognized for its ongoing partnership with the City to <br /> provide more than $100,000 annually to the City for the support of senior programming, <br /> given by the California Park and Recreation Society; the Garfield Recreation Club <br /> received an award of excellence in the area of recreation programming; Marlin Park <br /> Extension Project received an award of excellence for park planning; and long time <br /> Facility Aide Gene Brown was honored with a Certificate of Professionalism for his work <br /> supervising fields and customer service in the Community Activities Building; and Park <br /> and Recreation Manager Bill Wooten was honored for his more than 30 years of <br /> professional contributions to parks and recreation with the Distinguished Professional <br /> award. <br /> Mayor Pro Tern Ruskin said, "I think the staff works very hard every day of the year, and <br /> I want to honor them, and bring attention to their efforts when they win these prestigious <br /> awards. In addition, Kristen Andersen, our City's Child Care Coordinator, has <br /> announced that the State has given the City up to $259,000 annually in a fund providing <br /> for new child care and parenting education programs for school age parents.
