He agreed with Manager Patterson that stop signs don't <br /> always slow down traffic, can cause more accidents, and can cause a false sense of <br /> security, particularly at crosswalks. <br /> MEMO 2/24/98 <br /> In answer to Council Member Leipzig's questions, Traffic Engineer Haygood said there <br /> are over 20 requests for four-way stops signs pending. Manager Patterson said some <br /> requests have not been filled because staff was looking at speed humps or other traffic <br /> calming devices that might be better solutions.
