7.1.A. - Page 23 <br /> on behalf of City Council and the remaining Council Members thanked Mayor Aguirre <br /> for her service and expressed their appreciation for her style and hard work. <br /> C. Nominations and Selection of Mayor for a two-year term, conducted by <br /> City Clerk MINUTE ORDER 13-222 <br /> Vice Mayor Gee was nominated for the position of Mayor of the City of Redwood City by <br /> outgoing Mayor Alicia C. Aguirre. The City Clerk announced that new Mayor of <br /> Redwood City is Jeffrey Gee. <br /> City Manager Bell asked for a vote to be taken officially and the vote was unanimous. <br /> Mayor Gee thanked the Council for their vote to become Mayor and he guaranteed he <br /> will work hard to make sure Redwood City remains a great place. He wants to address <br /> opportunities and engage community stakeholders to embrace opportunities. <br /> He then spoke about the important aspects of a partnership between Mayor and Vice <br /> Mayor and how he envisioned that relationship to play out. <br /> He spoke about the process for selecting a new Vice Mayor and in discussions with the <br /> City Attorney and in reviewing the Charter and Municipal Code the process will include: <br /> opening the floor for nominations, he will acknowledge each nomination, no second is <br /> required, he will ask the nominating Council member to make a few remarks on the <br /> qualifications of the nominee, then he will close the nomination period and he will ask <br /> the City Clerk to conduct the roll call vote. Nominees will be voted on the order of <br /> nomination and the first nominee to get a majority vote will be the Vice Mayor and no <br /> further voting will be taken. <br /> D. Nominations and selection of Vice Mayor for a two-year term, <br /> conducted by the Mayor <br /> Council Member Seybert spoke about the partnership and a team approach for the <br /> Mayor and Vice Mayor relationship. He stated that he understands what is needed and <br /> expected of the position and nominated Council Member Foust for Vice Mayor she has <br /> the leadership, wisdom and bandwidth to lead this Council and community with the <br /> Mayor. <br /> Council Member Pierce said that she is glad Redwood City is lucky to have qualified <br /> candidates for this position and she nominated Council Member Bain. She said he has <br /> served the Council for over 10 years and would bring a strong business perspective and <br /> spoke about his qualifications for the Vice Mayor position. <br /> Mayor Gee closed the nomination period for Vice Mayor. <br /> City Clerk Vonderlinden asked for the votes on the first nomination: <br /> Council Member Foust received the majority of votes from Aguirre, Foust, <br /> Seybert, and Gee, with non-affirmative votes by: Bain, Howard and Pierce. <br /> Council Member Rosanne Foust had the majority of votes and was appointed the Vice <br /> Mayor of the City of Redwood City. <br /> CITY COUNCIL December 9, 2013 <br /> MEETING MINUTES PAGE 3 <br />
