7.1.A. - Page 24 <br /> Mayor Gee thanked the Council and concurred that there were six candidates that could <br /> have been qualified to be the next Vice Mayor of Redwood City. <br /> E. Comments by New Council Members, newly selected Vice Mayor, and <br /> Mayor MINUTE ORDER 13-223 <br /> Council Member Seybert spoke about Mayor Gee. He thanked Mayor Gee for his work <br /> and thanked his family. He spoke about his own reelection and thanked the members <br /> of the community who voted for him. He stated that he looks forward to continuing to <br /> work together with the Council, staff and the community. He looks forward to serving <br /> with the new Mayor and Vice Mayor. He also thanked outgoing Council Member Ira and <br /> his fiancée Donna. <br /> Council Member Howard acknowledged the past Mayors of the City of Redwood City in <br /> the audience and said that they have been mentors for all of those on the Council (Dick <br /> Claire, Georgi LaBerge, Daniela Gasparini, and Jim Hartnett). She thanked the <br /> members of the community that voted for her and helped her get onto the Council. She <br /> thanked her husband for his support and love. She stated that she looked forward to <br /> working with the community and the City Council and made remarks about the <br /> impending future. <br /> Vice Mayor Foust thanked her colleagues for allowing her to serve as Vice Mayor a <br /> second time. She congratulated the new Mayor and spoke highly of his commitment <br /> and skills and she also spoke positively about her fellow members on the Council. She <br /> thanked her husband and their children for their support. <br /> Mayor Gee congratulated his fellow recently elected Council Members and is looking <br /> forward to partnering with them. He spoke about the future of Redwood City and major <br /> upcoming projects, initiatives and ideas. His focus will continue on financial <br /> sustainability, economic development, public safety and shared services with the <br /> County and other jurisdictions. He also is excited about infrastructure planning, as well <br /> as addressing flooding issues. He touched on community benefits, hillside slope, <br /> partnerships with the Y, Complete Streets and other item which he is looking forward to <br /> addressing and moving along to fruition. <br /> He noted the Council would have a retreat in 2014 and would report back on the <br /> initiatives deriving from this conversation. New Mayor Jeffrey Gee recognized emeriti <br /> members of the community present as well as members of Boards, Commissions and <br /> Committees for their work and leadership. He also thanked the Council appointees and <br /> the staff for their hard work. Finally, he thanked his family starting with parents, siblings <br /> and most importantly his wife and two children for their support and love. Mayor Gee <br /> looks forward to keeping Redwood City as a leader. <br /> 8. MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST <br /> A.
