REPORT: Police Chief Bolanos, March 23, 1998 Council Member Leipzig renewed his request that study sessions be held in the Council Chamber, which was more comfortable and convenient for everyone and did not require the additional costs of a microphone system. MEMO 3/24/98 Council Member Leipzig asked staff if additional police personnel had already been hired and what was the source of funding for these vehicles. City Manager Everett, Police Captain Vermeer and Fleet Manager Barwacz advised that due to the long lead time to purchase and then modify these vehicles, up to 180 days, staff felt it was wise to order them now and take advantage of the good prices. City Manager Everett advised that the City planned to hire 5 officers this fiscal year and 5-7 officers next fiscal year, and they wanted to have the vehicles ready for the additional officers whey they come on board. In response to further questions, City Manager Everett advised that the Police Chief was trying to find the funds for these vehicles in this fiscal year's bud~et, but if it wasn't possible, then staff would come back to Council and ask for the additional funding for these unexpected expenditures, through the budget augmentation process.
