. . . . I ~.

5. BOARDS, COMMISSION AND COMMITTEE REPORTS
-
A. Discussion of the first Spring citywide recruitment for Council appointed boards,
committees and commissions, including Interview Session dates and swearing-in
reception; and appropriate Council action establishing set schedules; (209)
REPORT: City Clerk, March 23, 1998
Vice Mayor Ruskin recommended that a graphics artist be hired to design an ad that will
actually be noticed and increase the response from the community to the citywide
recruitment. He reported that the City Manager agreed to find the funding for this project.
Vice Mayor Ruskin recommended that the middle paragraph in the proposed ad be
eliminated, a phone number be included, and an appropriate headline be created that would
capture the readers attention.
Council Member Bain agreed and asked that the Web Site address be shortened.
Council thoroughly discussed the proposed dates for the Interview Sessions, appointments
and the swearing-in reception, and concluded that the mid-month publishing deadline for
the Redwood Shoes Pilot necessitated moving the proposed dates from May to June.
Council Member Hartnett said it was very difficult to set dates by committee.
-
MIS: HARTNETT/IRA TO AUTHORIZE THE CITY CLERK TO SET NEW DATES THAT
WOULD ALLOW FOR ADVERTISING IN THE PILOT AS WELL AS ALL THE OTHER
NEWSPAPERS AND NEWSLETTERS, EXTEND THE DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS
ACCORDINGLY; ESTABLISH THREE INTERVIEW SESSIONS, IF POSSIBLE ON AND
ALTERNATING THURSDAY, WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY SCHEDULE; SET NEW
APPOINTMENT AND SWEARING-IN RECEPTION DATES; AND INCLUDE THE
RECOMMENDATIONS OF VICE MAYOR RUSKIN AND COUNCIL MEMBER BAIN
CARRIED BY UNANIMOUS ROLL CALL VOTE.
MINUTE ORDER NO. 98-088
Council Members discussed the Traffic Advisory Committee, and generally agreed that it
would be appropriate to discuss it within the context of all the Council appointed boards,
committees and commissions during the planned Study Sessions scheduled to take place
over the twelve months.
