-
Mayor Howard thanked Mr. Levenson, and said, "we should never, ever take for granted
our freedoms, particularly the religious freedom that we enjoy."
MEMO 4/7/98
-------------------------______n______-------------------------------------------------------------------------______n_n
B. Presentation of Proclamation for "30th Anniversary of the Enactment of the Federal Fair
Housing Act of April II, 1968;" (207)
Mayor Howard said it was appropriate that while the Council was focusing on freedom
and tolerance this evening the Council also wanted to honor its support for fair housing.
She read the Anniversary Proclamation and presented it to Marcel Hawiger, Executive
Director of the MidPeninsula Citizens for Fair Housing. Mr. Hawiger thanked the Council
for the Proclamation and its continued support for fair housing opportunities in Redwood
City.
MEMO 4/7/98
__n-_-____n______------------------------------------------------------------------------------------_-___n----______n-
2. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
A. Robert Hoffman, 3098 Harcross Road, tenant of the Redwood City Marina, described
himself as an activist on behalf of recreational boating. Mr. Hoffman described the
agreement between the Redwood City Port and Cargill Salt Company, and the land that
they swapped. He advised that when the Parks and Recreation Department transferred that
particular piece of land to the Port for Seaport Village development in 1977, it was with
the understanding that it would continue to be used for recreational boating and dry boat
storage. He said the Seaport Village development wiped out the dry boat storage area.
(204)
Mr. Hoffman said the agreement was a swap of land of equal value that would provide
additional revenue to the Port, allow increased access for Cargill Salt Company, provide
boat storage that will remove many boats and trailers from City Streets, and give boaters
access to the 17 miles of Redwood City waterways. Mr. Hoffman said he hoped everyone
would understand what a good deal this was for the City, and support this land swap.
MEMO 4/7/98
B. Pat Dixon, 16 Admiralty, asked if the reference to GID 1-64 in last week's Minutes had
been corrected to OlD 1-65, and staff assured her it had already been corrected. She
thanked Mayor Howard for complimenting her garden, recorded in last week's Minutes,
and invited Council and staff to visit her and see her beautiful orchids.
