'. . . I . .
C. Barbara Lantz, 2290 Vera Avenue, lives across the street from Roosevelt School, and
said the school buses and the parents dropping off and picking up their children have
created a very dangerous situation. She said children dart into the street from in front of
- and behind the school buses, and she was afraid someone was going to get hurt. Mrs.
Lantz said there was a widened area in front of the school used for faculty or visitor
parking that would provide a much safer place for buses and parents to drop off and pick
up their children. She asked that a police officer monitor this situation. (100)
Mrs. Lantz also said the City was not sweeping their street.
Mayor Howard asked City Manager Everett to contact Mrs. Lantz. City Manager
Everett said that staff would work with the School Principal, the neighbors, parents and the
PT A to see what could be done.
MEMO 4/7/98
Council Member Leipzig advised that this situation exists in front of most schools and
asked that the City/School Council Committee study this issue.
MEMO 4/7/98
Vice Mayor Ruskin, Chair of the City/School Council Committee, asked the City
Manager to monitor the situation and keep him apprised of his progress.
MEMO 4/7/98
D. John Murphy, 421 Luff Lane, renewed his request that the Council revise the southern
~ boundaries ofGID 1-64, Bair Island, which now has a tax-exempt status. (203)
City Manager Everett said that when the Bair Island property was purchased by Post
from a private party the City did lose about $20,000 in property taxes. He said, "when you
divide that by the number of homes (in GID 1-64) it is almost nil. We have talked to the
City Attorney and there is absolutely no reason to change the boundaries. It is a done deal,
and there is no more action to be taken." City Manager Everett said that all this
information had been communicated to Mr. Murphy many times.
Vice Mayor Ruskin said Mr. Murphy has been present at all the meetings of the Bair
Island Task Force meetings dealing with a Bair Island Connector Road. He said the Task
Force had discussed this issue and it would be included in the Bair Island Task Force
Report he was preparing for Council.
MEMO 4/7/98
-----______n__----------------------------------------__nn______--------------------------------------------------------
3. CONSENT CALENDAR
Council Member Leipzig removed Item J.D. from the Consent Calendar to be discussed
immediately following adoption of the Consent Calendar.
~
REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING MINUTE BOOK NO. 56 APRIL 6,1998
MINUTES Page No. 363 PAGE 3
