Mrs. <br /> Mayers related some of the complaints received about the Golden Gate Bookstore <br /> when she was president of the Downtown Association in the early 1980s. She also <br /> described some of the problems with SOBs in the County. Mrs. Mayers said the EI <br /> Camino is the gateway to Redwood City and it was important to do as much as <br /> possible to create a positive image for the City. <br /> Mayor Howard commended the Redwood City Police and San Mateo County Sheriff <br /> Department for working together in trying to resolve this issue along southern El <br />- Camino Real. <br /> Ron Guglielmone, 2425 Jefferson Avenue, said he and his family objected to the <br /> existence of the Golden Gate Bookstore across the street from Sequoia High School. <br /> He provided background on how local cities got rid of newsracks showing explicit <br /> material. He suggested that the sobriquet "adult books" was a misnomer, that books <br /> written by Shakespeare, books in our libraries and books carried in Barnes and Noble <br /> are real adult books. <br /> Mayor Howard asked if anyone else wished to speak to this issue.
