(604) <br /> REPORT: Police Sergeant Ron Matuszak, April 27, 1998 <br /> Referring to Ms. Christy's request under Oral Communications for the Council not to <br /> approve the requested permit, Council Members discussed whether it was appropriate for <br /> the CouncillCity to get involved in a dispute between two private parties, especially during <br /> the permit process. <br /> Council Member Leipzig said he wasn't asking that the parade be canceled. He said he <br /> had enjoyed the parade and the fireworks all of his life. Council Member Leipzig said he <br /> was asking his colleagues to take seriously any charge of discrimination, and asked if a <br /> one or two week delay would create a hardship. <br /> Council Member Hartnett said he believed the statements of Ms. Christy were well <br />- intentioned and intended to put the City on notice of the problem and potential lawsuit.
