<br /> Mr. Anthony thanked the Council for the retirement plaque. He said the Council Members <br /> were doing a wonderful job and he had a great deal of respect for them and the tough job <br /> that they do. Mr. Anthony said he would never actually leave the Senior Affairs <br /> Commission, but would now work for seniors' issues "on the fringes." <br /> B. Proclamation proclaiming National Public Works Week, May 17 through 23, 1998; (207) <br /> Mayor Howard read the proclamation proclaiming National Public Works Week, May 17 <br /> through 23, 1998 and thanked the members of Redwood City's Public Works Services <br /> Departments who "everyday go out into the community and not only do their jobs, but <br /> educate school children as well as all the people in our community about water <br /> conservation, recycling, and air and water pollution" and what we should be doing to help <br /> the environment. Mayor Howard described the poster contest held in Redwood City <br /> schools to help celebrate National Public Works Week. Mayor Howard read the <br /> proclamation and presented it to Engineering and Construction Manager Patterson who <br /> accepted the proclamation on behalf of the Public Works Services Department; <br />--------------------______n_----------------------------------------------------------------------______n__--______n__n <br />2. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS (203) <br /> A. Don Saye, 2021 Broadway, representing "the Carrington Hall Restoration Committee and <br /> the Art Center of Redwood City, who this weekend revived the famous Sunflower Festival" <br /> on the 2600 block of Broadway. Mr. Saye described the quality vendors and wonderful <br /> activities that highlighted the event. He thanked the Council, the Police Department and <br /> BFI for their support and services that made the Festival such a success. <br /> B. Juan Vilorio, 314 King Street, Redwood City resident for 24 years, gave the Council <br /> photographs of the property on the comer of Willow and Middlefield Road and said he had <br /> complained about the unsightliness of this property and the surrounding sidewalk for many, <br /> many years. He said the sewer on that corner is also constantly overflowing and asked the <br /> Council to see what could be done. Mr. Vilorio said the Redwood City Fire Department <br /> did an incredible job recently at a fire on that property, but now the property looks even <br /> worse. <br /> Mayor Howard said that the City Manager would contact Mr. Vilorio, and Vice Mayor <br /> Ruskin said that the Council Utilities Committee would be glad to get involved in seeing <br /> what could be done about the sewer problems. <br /> MEMO 5/19/98 <br /> C. Louis Giannatasio, 1795 Edgewood Road, said he was a concerned parent, member of the <br /> Sequoia High School PT A, and a member of the committee to save the oak trees on campus <br /> and to consider a closed campus. He said that the children of the community needed a safe <br /> place to skate.
