ORAL COMMUNICATIONS <br /> Jeff Fillipi, 627 Middlefield, representing Peninsula Symphony Youth Orchestras, <br /> described the program under the leadership of Maestro Mitchell Dardou Klein and Sara <br /> Salsbury. He discussed the purpose, goal, objective and curriculum of this Redwood City <br /> based organization. Dr. Fillipi stated that the Peninsula Symphony Youth Orchestras <br /> were committed to the "cultivation of instrumental music by youth and to the <br /> advancement of the cultural life of the Peninsula." <br /> Derald Blackmore, Principal of McKinley Middle School, also representing Peninsula <br /> Symphony Youth Orchestras, stated that the program was a role model for students in the <br /> school district. STUDY SESSION <br /> Community Development Director Nelson facilitated the Joint Study Session. <br /> - A. Downtown Theater Project <br /> REPORT: Economic Development Coordinator Webb <br /> Director Nelson introduced Economic Development Coordinator Webb, <br /> Council MemberlDirector Ira, and Economic Consultant Kelly who had <br /> worked on a committee to review the possibilities of a downtown theater <br /> project. She outlined the following issues to be discussed: <br /> 1. Background <br /> 2. Criteria for Request for Proposals (RFP) <br /> 3. Next Steps <br /> Economic Development Coordinator Webb said that one of the objectives of <br /> the Downtown Master Plan Study, prepared in 1983, was to bring people to the <br /> downtown area and energize Broadway. She stated that a downtown theater <br /> project would be in keeping with the goals established in 1983. <br /> Council MemberlDirector Ira reported that theater groups had expressed an <br /> interest in the Way-To-Go property.
