<br /> Dr. Filippi described the "Music is Instrumental, Banding together for a Sound <br /> Education" Foundation that is trying to acquire musical instruments to reinstitute music <br /> programs in Redwood City elementary schools. He thanked Parks, Recreation and <br /> Community Services Superintendent Centeno for arranging City community centers to be <br /> used as drop-off sites for donated musical instruments. <br /> Viee Mayor Ruskin, mernber of the Foundation, thanked Dr. Filippi for seeing and trying <br /> to fill this need in the elementary schools and for his support of the Foundation. <br /> B. John Holt, 42 Iris, member of the Optimists, sponsors of the 'Tis the Season" events, <br /> described the parade and spectacular fireworks held on Saturday. He thanked City <br /> Manager Everett, Parks, Recreation and Community Services Superintendent Hover, the <br /> Police Department, Fire Department and Public Works Services for their support and <br /> assistance. Mr. Holt invited everyone to attend the remaining events and also asked for <br /> donations to help defray the costs. <br /> Mayor Howard also thanked the Civic Cultural Commission, the Peninsula Celebration <br /> Association, Dr. Filippi and Mr. Holt for their hard work on the "Tis the Season" events. <br /> C. Bob O'Brien, 2130 McGarvey, thanked the Council for the action they took at the last <br /> Council meeting regarding tree cutting, "you acted very quickly and very positively." Mr. <br /> O'Brien said he and Dr. Dorrance, who had spoken at the last meeting, were very <br /> appreciative of the action the Council took and hoped more positive steps would be taken. <br /> Viee Mayor Ruskin said that he and Councilman Hartnett had met this morning with <br /> Public Works Services Director Ingram to start the process that will lead to an improved <br /> Citywide tree policy. He described the upcoming public meeting and said Mr. O'Brien <br /> and Dr. Dorrance would be invited to attend that meeting. <br /> MEMO 12/9/97 <br /> ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- <br /> 3.
