7.1. B. - Page 13
2.2 Consultant will perform design surveys of the wall alignment within 20 feet of the
proposed wall location. Features to be located include: ground elevations, grade
breaks, trails, surface evidence of underground utilities, signs and trees with trunk
diameter of 4 inches or greater. Gravity utility structures will be located near the
project site and invert elevations measured.
The results of the survey will be drafted in an AutoCAD topographic base map and
will serve as the basis for engineering design. Due to the small project area and
the remoteness of the site, project control will be run on a random basis. Project
control will be shown on the project plans and will be mathematically tied to the
proposed improvements and relate to the adjacent retaining wall that was recently
constructed. Potholing of existing utilities is included as an optional task. The
scope of surveying does not include procurement of title reports, legal descriptions
and plats, boundary surveys, or construction staking.
Deliverables:
• Existing conditions base map with existing utilities in AutoCAD and PDF
format.
TASK 3 — INITIAL DESIGN (75% DESIGN SUBMITTAL)
3.1 Consultant's geotechnical subconsultant, Cotton, Shires and Associates, Inc., will
perform soil borings, testing, analysis, and prepare a Foundation Report for the
retaining structure.
3.1.1 Surficial geotechnical investigation including review of available data and
geotechnical reconnaissance.
• Review of available data — published maps and reports pertinent to
site conditions will be reviewed.
• Geotechnical Reconnaissance — A surficial reconnaissance will be
completed of the area to formulate a preliminary interpretation of the
type and distribution of surficial materials (alluvium, fill and bedrock).
CSA will then prepare an engineering geologic map of the proposed
retaining wall area using a topographic base map to be provided by
Mark Thomas in electronic AutoCAD format prior to reconnaissance.
CSA will also layout boring locations and notify USA.
3.1.2 Subsurface geotechnical investigation including subsurface exploration
(borings) and laboratory testing
• Subsurface Exploration (Borings) — Four, small diameter borings
will be advanced by means of a truck - mounted drill rig along the
retaining wall alignment up to a depth of approximately 35 -40 feet
in certain borings. The holes will be logged to aid in CSA
interpretation of subsurface conditions. Selected samples will be
collected to determine geotechnical properties for design.
REV: 02 -21 -14 VR
ATTY /AGR.2014.019 /Mark Thomas & Company, Inc.
