MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST This item limited to fifteen minutes. A. Councilwoman La Berge announced that she had recently attended a meeting of the Civic Cultural Commission and described how pleased the Commissioners were to have a Council Member attend their meeting. She urged her colleagues to attend as many board, committee and commission meetings as they could. Councilwoman La Berge asked '-- Council to consider appointing a Council member as liaison to each board, committee and commission. (203) MEMO 1/7/97 B. Councilwoman La Berge spoke on the record: "Redwood City really did an outstanding, remarkable job with Christmas decorations this year. I heard comments ITom people ITom other communities that Redwood City had among the most sparkling decorations on the peninsula, and I think if any of you spent time riding to Candy Cane Lane and other places in Redwood City, it truly was really beautiful. It was a real tribute to Redwood City because I personally (saw), and I am sure many of you did, many more lights in middle income and low income areas. I think that it is very clear that there are people in this community who really wanted to make their homes especially beautiful for the Holidays. And they did achieve that." (203) C. Councilman Ira Ruskin said "When I heard that Bob (Distefano) had passed away this morning, I was given to think about how instantly I realized the ways in which I would miss Bob. What I liked so much about Bob Distefano, was that he cared very deeply about the community, and that he cared enough to voice his concern. I think that Bob represented something that every city needs, and that is, he was willing to take part in the public debate. And I think that is rare and very valuable.
