thanked Community Development Director Nelson and her engineering staff and the
James Street staff who submitted the application. (209)
Vice Mayor Howard reported that C/CAG has approved a Mid-County Task Force to
study traffic impacting Highway 101 between Highways 92 and 84. She advised that
Redwood City would be part of that Task Force. It will be a broader project than the
one Belmont, San Carlos and Redwood City are currently studying.
Vice Mayor Howard said C/CAG members were given a presentation on the
CalTrain MultiPurpose Trail commissioned by the San Mateo County Transportation
Authority. It is a feasibility study securing more public input which is controversial.
It would be a commuter type pedestrianlbicycle trail running along the length of
CalTrain, and perhaps recreational use. Vice Mayor Howard said there are significant
safety concerns attached to this project and there will be much more study on the
proposals before anything moves forward.
C. Councilman Leipzig announced that he and Councilwoman La Berge attended a Chamber
luncheon which featured Lawrence Ellison, CEO of Oracle Corporation, as the keynote
speaker. During the meeting Mr. Ellison was asked if he had concerns about Redwood
City and he said his main concern was the traffic on 101, especially the auxiliary lanes
leaving the Redwood Shores Neighborhood. After the luncheon Councilman Leipzig
spoke to Mr. Ellison and assured him that the City was "doing everything we could to
work on that problem."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
8. STAFF REPORTS
A. Amend DES Architectural Services Agreement for Redwood Shores Fire Station and
Maintenance Facilities (100)
REPORT: Project Coordinator Public Works Services Director Ingram, January 13, 1997
Director Ingram used an overhead slide showing the "Milestones" along the road to this
project. He said thanks to City staff, DES and Rudolph and Sletten the project "is right on
target."
In response to Vice Mayor Howard's questions, Director Ingram said the emergency
generator will be located behind the fire station, have matching walls, and landscaping as
mitigation measures; and will emit a low rumbling noise when it is in operation - which
will only be during an emergency situation when it will supply power to the fire station
and the water tank.
In response to Councilman Claire's questions, Director Ingram said Rudolph and
Sletten expected a great number of bidders on this project and that would explain the high
number of proposals prepared.
REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING MINUTE BOOK NO. 55 JANUARY 13, 1997
MINUTES PAge No. 102 PAGE 5
