<br /> 7. Closing comments. <br /> Mayor Pro Tem Howard thanked everyone for the detailed presentation. She <br /> complimented City staff and Council Members who attended the neighborhood <br /> meeting at the Hotel Sofitel, Friday night, January 29, 1997 and for their open and <br /> responsive answers to neighbor's concerns. She said the audience was very <br /> appreciative of the information and the emphasis on a top quality project that will <br /> come in on time. <br /> -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- <br /> C. Community Development Department Reorganization Report - Director Nelson <br /> REPORT: Community Development, February 3, 1997 <br /> Community Development Director Nelson introduced the members of the nine <br /> reorganization teams that were present in the audience and would take part in the <br /> presentation: Presenters Chu Chang, Elizabeth Dunlap, Maureen Riordan, Tom <br /> Passanisi, John La Torra; Participants Joel Patterson, Mike Church, Charles Jany, Jon <br /> Lynch, Nelson Brichacek, Lowell Sue, Brian Lee, Peter Vorametsanti, Juan Garcia, Ruth <br /> Kirley, Mary Jean Robles, Diana Rapposelli, Ellie Hobson, and Judy Small. <br /> Through overheads, dramatic demonstrations and placards, the members described the <br /> process and focus of Community Development reorganization: <br /> "Our Mission: Working together for Quality Community Development. <br /> Our Commitment: Customer Focus; Service Excellence; Problem Solving; Community <br /> Interest; and Continuous Improvement. " <br /> The team members described the old Community Development organization with four <br /> divisions (Engineering, Planning, Redevelopment and Building), and the new <br /> Community Development Services organization with three overlapping work groups <br /> (Engineering and Construction, Planning and Redevelopment, and Building and <br /> Inspection.) <br /> Director Nelson said the department would continue the process of customer surveys, <br /> focus groups, monitoring what other agencies are doing, and listening to the community <br /> in order to pursue "continuous improvement." In response to Council questions <br /> regarding how callers would reach specific people in the department, Director Nelson <br /> said the emphasis would be on service and function rather than titles. <br /> Mayor Pro Tem Howard thanked the Community Development Services Department <br /> for the great presentation, and everyone enjoyed the fortune cookies provided by the <br /> Team members.
